Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Diller Scofidio + Renfro Deploys Panzura for Cloud NAS
In Conjunction With Amazon Web Services (AWS), Panzura Consolidates Multiple Point Solutions and Enables Rapid Disaster Recovery From Superstorm Sandy

LAS VEGAS, NV and SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/28/12 -- From the AWS re:Invent show in Las Vegas: Panzura, a leading provider of global cloud storage solutions, today announced that Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), a New York City-based, interdisciplinary design studio that integrates architecture, visual and performing arts, has selected Panzura's award-winning global cloud storage system as the basis for its cloud network attached storage (NAS) platform. Used in conjunction with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Panzura replaces a mixture of point solutions for the design studio to deliver a single consolidated, full-featured cloud storage tier for its users. In addition, when DS+R recently had a data center that lost power and had limited physical access due to Superstorm Sandy, Panzura enabled rapid recovery via the Amazon S3 cloud.

"Our building's electrical systems were damaged due to flooding from Sandy. Panzura's Global Cloud Storage System allowed us to create a recovery platform and access our backup data stored in the cloud, which kept us productive until full power and access was restored," said Chris Donnell, IT manager at DS+R. "In the future, we expect the Panzura Cloud NAS functionality to fully replace a variety of our IT systems, including backup devices and file servers, and enable a seamless path to future organizational growth."

DS+R will archive the majority of its architectural design documents and models in the Amazon S3 cloud via a 12TB local cache on the Panzura Quicksilver Cloud Storage Controller for rapid local access to data. This will enable the design studio to easily scale and support possible future geographical expansion. The Panzura solution also effectively replaces a mashup of storage solutions, including a Windows server, backup software, tape libraries, tapes, off-site physical vaulting and local storage capacity.

Panzura's Global Cloud Storage System, comprised of the Quicksilver Cloud Storage Controller, PZOS operating system and Panzura CloudFS file system, enables "NetApp In the Sky" functionality to address a broad array of business use cases for enterprises looking to leverage the flexibility, efficiency and cost saving benefits of the cloud. A single Quicksilver controller offers active archiving, consolidation and centralization of files, and enables easy file sharing, data protection and disaster recovery in public or private clouds.

"Enterprises of all sizes are choosing Panzura as their path to integrate the cloud into their storage infrastructure. DS+R is a prime example of an industry leader in its vertical embracing the potential of cloud storage and employing it for a multitude of purposes, including secondary NAS, data protection and disaster recovery," said Ranajit Nevatia, VP of marketing, Panzura. "We're proud to have been selected by DS+R as their cloud NAS provider and look forward to working together with Amazon Web Services to simplify and support the continued consolidation of their IT operations, as they expand their global footprint."
