SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/28/12 -- Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the performance company, today announced that Riverbed® Stingray Traffic Manager, a software and virtual edition application delivery controller (ADC), is now a certified load balancer for Microsoft® Lync® 2010. The software was tested by Riverbed and certified by Microsoft to meet Lync Server 2010 load balancer requirements. This certification brings Stingray Traffic Manager software's performance benefits to Microsoft Lync 2010, enabling enterprise employees to be more productive and better collaborate whether by phone, instant message or web conference. Stingray Traffic Manager software optimizes performance and delivers scalability to Lync by load balancing between pooled servers, increasing Lync's ability to deliver highly-available and reliable communications services for enterprise users. Lync can also be deployed with Domain Name System (DNS) load balancing, a cost-effective form of application-level load balancing that manages inbound traffic within the network. Stingray Traffic Manager software works in conjunction with DNS load balancing by managing all HTTP/HTTPS traffic, reducing the workload for DNS load balancing to further optimize Lync performance. Lync enables Microsoft Exchange 2010 and SharePoint 2010 enterprise users to keep track of their contacts' availability; send instant messages; start or join an audio, video, or web conference; or make phone calls -- all through a consistent and familiar interface. As networks struggle to manage large amounts of data between many users, enterprise applications face increasing performance challenges. Lync accommodates this increase in network traffic and helps scale to a large numbers of users by using multiple front end and edge servers as a single pool of resource that creates a set of reusable server connections, which is then managed from a single interface. "Riverbed and Microsoft continue to work together on many key areas to cost-efficiently improve the performance and reliability of platforms used by businesses around the world," said Apurva Davé, vice president of products and marketing, Stingray Business Unit at Riverbed. "The latest testing and certification for Lync reaffirms the commitment from Microsoft and Riverbed to integrate the leading communications and performance platforms, guaranteeing end users an improved experience, and enhanced ability to effectively communicate in the workplace." The qualification program for Microsoft Lync load balancer partners includes specific requirements for interoperability with Lync Server 2010, including scenario testing, comprehensive documentation and support, and enterprise-class reliability and scalability.
