Sheetz Center for 'Shwellness' To Open and Be First of Its Kind LEED Certified Facility in Blair County
Sheetz Employees Will Receive Free Health and Wellness Programs

CLAYSBURG, Pa., Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheetz will hold a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at its new employee health and wellness center on November 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Sheetz Center for Shwellness is located beside the Sheetz Distribution Center in Claysburg, Pennsylvania.  It is the first LEED certified building in Blair County.

On the forefront  of trends in company health benefit programs, Sheetz along with its partner Marathon-Health, will use medical staff to provide individual health and wellness coaching to employees and their eligible dependents. The Shwellness Center is intended to help Sheetz employees improve their overall health by creating awareness of their own health conditions, while allowing them to better manage their medical care costs.  All services are offered to eligible employees and dependents free of charge.

"Sheetz has been voted by our employees as among the best places to work for more than a decade because we do everything we can to acknowledge their value and keep them happy in their jobs," says President and CEO of Sheetz Inc. Stan Sheetz. "We are proud to be able to invest in the lives of our team members across the company and we hope the programs and services offered at the Center will keep them on a path to healthier lifestyles."

Sheetz designed the Center for Shwellness to be more than an exercise facility. In addition to the state-of-the-art fitness center that includes a full line of cardio and strength equipment, a quarter-mile outdoor track and a group exercise room, employees will also have the option of participating in healthy living, disease management and lifestyle classes in the learning center. Several different types of health  screenings will also be available at the Center, in addition to treatment for acute care and chronic conditions.

"The Sheetz Center for Shwellness will be the hub for all future wellness initiatives, bringing convenient health resources to local employees, as well as using technology to bring similar wellness resources to employees outside the immediate area,"  says Travis Eckels of Marathon Health.  "Our clinical staff is committed to helping people improve their lives through health education, motivation and individual coaching.  Our onsite team of health care practitioners establishes meaningful relationships with employees and is available to them exclusively as they work together to  reach their personal goals."

This 11,000-square-foot LEED certified building meets the criteria of the Leadership of Energy and Environmental Design for a sustainable, "green" model.  The LEED program is internationally recognized and fostered by the United States Certified Building Council.  The architectural firms that partnered with Sheetz for this project include Hayes Large Architects, Keller Engineers, HF Lenz, Mark Stephen Design and EvolveEA. Sheetz, Inc. , established in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is one of America's fastest growing family-owned and operated convenience restaurant chains, with more than $6 billion in annual revenue and more than 15,000 employees.  The company operates 432 locations throughout Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia.  Sheetz provides an award-winning menu of MTO® subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through unique touch-screen order point terminals.  Sheetz currently ranks on the Best Places to Work list in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, and has been on the list in Pennsylvania for ten consecutive years.  All Sheetz convenience restaurants are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
