I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Matt Murphy Joins Datameer Board of Directors

SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Datameer Inc., the leader in Hadoop big data analytics, today announced that Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers partner Matt Murphy has joined its Board of Directors. With extensive expertise in enterprise software, mobile solutions and cloud infrastructure technology, Murphy sits on or advises more than a dozen startups. Prior to joining the Datameer board, Murphy was a board observer at Google from the time of its initial investment to its IPO, and also advised several companies that were later acquired by the likes of Google, Dell, Groupon, and RIM.

In addition to his work advising enterprise startups, Murphy also manages the iFund, a collaborative initiative with Apple that focuses on funding and building defining applications on the iOS platform and the mobile Internet.

"As we open the first true marketplace for buying and selling pre-packaged Big Data analytic applications, we couldn't have welcomed Murphy onto our board at a better time," said Stefan Groschupf, CEO of Datameer. "His direct experience in enterprise software along with his work building out a meaningful ecosystem on the iOS platform will undoubtedly help accelerate Datameer's larger goal of the marketplace, which is to truly democratize Big Data analytics once and for all."

"Hadoop hit a major inflection in 2012, with businesses implementing analytics instead of just investigating the technology, but there is still work to be done before it truly becomes mainstream," commented Murphy. "Datameer's new platform for creating, buying, and selling pre-packaged Big Data analytics is exactly the kind of innovation business users need to finally harness the power of Big Data analytics. I look forward to working with Datameer during this exciting time."

Murphy currently sits on the board or works closely with management teams from Aerohive Networks, AppDynamics, Apperian, AutoNavi, Booyah!, Drawbridge, Egnyte,  RGB Networks, Puppet Labs, SessionM, Shazam, shopkick, Simplivity, Stoke and textPlus. He holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
