ČEZ a.s. Selects the OSIsoft PI System Real Time Data Infrastructure for Central Storage of Technological Data (CUTD) Project

ČEZ a.s., the largest electricity generator in the Czech Republic and one of the largest utility companies in the Central and Eastern European region recently adopted OSIsoft’s PI System real-time data infrastructure to support its Central Storage of Technological Data (CUTD) project. The goal of the CUTD project is to consolidate and standardize existing methods of production data collection from across the ČEZ a.s. power generation fleet, providing an enterprise class infrastructure to store and share valuable operational data. The CUTD project will deliver a robust and secure platform that provides a single point of access for all company applications that require validated production data.

The OSIsoft PI System is the industry standard in enterprise infrastructure for the management of real-time data and events and is widely used within the Power and Utilities sector worldwide and in many other process industries. One of the key factors in the selection of the OSIsoft PI System by ČEZ a.s. was its ability to support many of the organisation‘s business objectives as an “out-of-the-box” solution, significantly reducing the need for bespoke development, speeding up the implementation cycle and shortening the time needed for value to be delivered to the business. The PI System’s high availability and reliability, coupled with its industry leading ability to collect and preserve real-time operational data, are further attributes that ČEZ a.s. will employ to store decades‘ worth of production and operational data from its entire power generation fleet to then make this data available online with appropriate access and permissions.

Danes Burket, Technical Support Department Director, Generation Division, ČEZ a.s. commented on the rationale for choosing the OSIsoft PI system. “We were considering more options, including custom development, while selecting the solution for the CUTD project. The PI System was selected as a stable and continuously developed solution fully corresponding with our long-term IT strategy. A significant role in the selection process was played by the references ČEZ reviewed from both Czech as well as foreign current PI System users. ČEZ expects additional value from future initiatives such as Operation efficiency project, which will be built on top of the CUTD.”

Martin Otterson, senior vice president of sales, Marketing and Industry at OSIsoft added “OSIsoft is delighted to have been selected by ČEZ to support the important CUTD project using the PI System. OSIsoft looks forward to working with ČEZ as they develop their real-time data infrastructure to support not only this project, but future initiatives and projects that will benefit from the real-time and historical data that will be made available by the PI System from across the entire ČEZ business and organisation.”
