KINBER Announces Partnership With One Source Networks as a Designated Provider for Last Mile Connectivity to Broadband Network

STATE COLLEGE, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/19/12 -- One Source Networks, Inc. (OSN), the managed voice and data services provider and network partner of choice for large enterprises, and the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER), the non-profit membership organization that is building a broadband network across Pennsylvania, announced today that OSN has become the first company added to KINBER's designated provider list for last mile connectivity. The KINBER research network joins 38 other state research networks across the country that deliver high bandwidth networking services to support regional economic development.

As a carrier neutral provider of last mile access, One Source Networks is uniquely qualified to efficiently and cost-effectively design, source, implement and manage last-mile access from all available providers in Pennsylvania. OSN has more than 23,000 on-net and carrier unique locations in Pennsylvania, resulting in access options and secure competitive pricing for more than 90 percent of KINBER members' needs across the commonwealth.

Bruce M. Taggart, Ph.D., chair of the KINBER Board of Directors and Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services at Lehigh University, said, "OSN has an excellent reputation for service and shares our dedication to providing access to high speed networking in unserved and underserved regions in Pennsylvania."

"One Source Networks is honored to be selected as a designated provider of last mile access to the KINBER network," said Ernest Cunningham, Chief Executive Officer of One Source Networks. "Our commitment to providing the highest quality services and solutions, while adhering to a customer-centric philosophy, will benefit KINBER members and the people they serve."

KINBER's Pennsylvania Research and Education Network (PennREN), a high-speed broadband network, enables various possibilities ranging from commodity internet to high-definition video conferencing. KINBER is offering a variety of services to its members during PennREN's inaugural year, including dark fiber services, metro Ethernet service and optical transport services across PennREN. "Last mile" providers connect KINBER's member organizations directly to PennREN. In addition to last mile access, One Source Networks can further expand KINBER's capabilities by providing additional enablement technologies such as cloud hosted IT services, local and long-distance voice over IP, web, video and audio conferencing, as well as WAN and IP services

"KINBER member organizations have asked how they can connect to PennREN and experience the benefits of broadband," said Jeff Reel, CEO and executive director of KINBER. "With access to over 200 carriers, OSN offers our members easy implementation of last mile options that will meet their needs and reflect the best pricing available."

With operations already integrated, last mile services can be delivered via any KINBER team member.

About KINBER

KINBER is a nonprofit membership organization that provides broadband connectivity, fosters collaboration, and promotes the innovative use of digital technologies among learning, health, media and other anchor institutions that improve the quality of life for communities in Pennsylvania through research, education and public service. Established in 2010 through a grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, KINBER is committed to delivering equitable, reliable and affordable access, space for collaboration, and digital tools for research and education to inspire tomorrow's scientific discoveries, enable the exchange of ideas and culture among diverse populations, educate the next generation of citizens and revitalize Pennsylvania's economy.

KINBER's first project, PennREN, will deliver a state-wide platform for connecting its members through facilities-based fiber-optic networking. Members can utilize PennREN's services for advancing their initiatives while KINBER provider partners can offer open access for expanding broadband access across the commonwealth. PennREN will initially light over 1,600 miles of fiber on a middle-mile network that will connect over 70 locations. For more information on PennREN and KINBER, visit KINBER.org.
