MONROE, La., Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) has completed an upgrade of its network and is now delivering speeds of 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) nationwide across its backbone and in more than 50 metropolitan locations across the United States. The company also recently deployed 100 Gbps in Singapore and London, with more international cities planned for early 2013. (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090602/DA26511LOGO) Through its next generation converged optical service platforms, CenturyLink can now deliver its dedicated 100 Gigabit Ethernet Optical Wavelength Service to enterprise and wholesale businesses in the United States and in select international cities. Additional capabilities will be deployed in early 2013, including connectivity to Savvis cloud, hosting and colocation services, data centers and customer business locations. Savvis, a CenturyLink company, is a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises. With data consumption on the rise, CenturyLink's upgraded network will be able to accommodate the bandwidth demand driven by cloud computing, mobile traffic, big data and video streaming with Ethernet-based service delivery to customer sites. "Responding to the increasing broadband demands and supporting new business applications is a priority for us, which is why we began the transition to 100 Gbps a couple of years ago," said Pieter Poll, CenturyLink senior vice president of national and international network planning, engineering and construction. "These speed and capacity improvements will provide customer services that deliver fully managed, end-to-end optical networks designed to meet the specific needs of banks and financial institutions, government agencies, enterprises, carriers and Internet service providers."
