EnGenius Technologies Dual-Band Router Optimized for Streaming HD Media to Enrich Home Entertainment Experience

EnGenius® Technologies, Inc., the leader in long-range Wireless-N networking solutions for homes and businesses, today announced the launch of the EIR900 Dual-Band Wireless-N 900 Media Router with Gigabit and USB Ports.

Engineered and optimized for HD media, the EIR900 is an intelligent high-bandwidth router that delivers wireless speeds up to 900Mbps using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. Equipped with a four-port Gigabit switch and Gigabit WAN port, the EIR900 makes it quick and easy to connect entertainment components such as Blu-ray players, DVRs, set-top boxes, game consoles, and HDTVs to the network via high-speed wired or wireless connections. By enabling these devices to access the fast-growing array of Internet-based online entertainment, the EIR900 truly enables users to expand and enrich the home entertainment experience.

Equipped with two USB 2.0 ports for attaching USB hard drives, the EIR900 is also a Network Attached Storage platform which enables users to stream stored video and music content to any DLNA-supported device. An optimized Quality-of-Service (QoS) engine prioritizes media and other bandwidth-intensive content within the home network and from the Internet ensures jitter-free enjoyment of digital content.

The EIR900 incorporates a robust set of security features, including WPA/WPA2 encryption, SPI firewall and MAC address filtering protect the network and connected devices from unauthorized access. Users can establish up to eight SSIDs (four on each frequency band) to provide guests access to the Internet and specific devices like printers while protecting sensitive information stored on networked computers and hard drives. IPsec VPN support enables remote workers to security connect to a corporate office network from home.

Key features of the EIR900:

  • Wireless-N Speed: Speeds up to 900 Mbps (450Mbps+450Mbps) using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands;
  • Gigabit Wired Speeds and USB 2.0 Ports: Four-port Gigabit switch and a Gigabit WAN port; two USB 2.0 ports to attach and share USB hard drives;
  • Optimized HD video streaming and downloads: QoS engine prioritizes media and other bandwidth-intensive content on the network and from the Internet;
  • Guest access: Up to eight separate and discrete SSIDs (four SSIDs on each band);
  • Network security: WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption, SPI firewall, Denial-of-Service blocking and MAC and URL filtering;
  • Secure remote access: Supports L2TP and PPTP VPN tunnels for secure connections to the corporate office network.

“The exponential growth of cloud-based content accessed through services like Netflix and Hulu is creating a paradigm shift in the way that consumers access and enjoy the various forms of video and audio entertainment in the home,” explained Eric Chen, product manager at EnGenius. “No longer is it acceptable to simply be able to access Internet-based content from the home network – the network infrastructure needs to be able to access the content, ensure the quality of service required to prioritize the content correctly on the network, and deliver it at a high rate of speed to the various multimedia devices to provide a cable-quality entertainment experience. The new EIR900 is designed specifically for this purpose and is engineered to enable the next-generation of digital entertainment in the connected home.”

The EIR900 is backed by a one-year warranty and is available in early November 2012 in North America via authorized distributors and value-added resellers at an MSRP of $149.99.
