Tekelec's Diameter Signaling Router Awarded "Best Signaling Solution for Traffic Management"
Industry Analyst Panel Selected Broadband Traffic Management Congress Awards 2012 Winners

MORRISVILLE, NC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/12/12 -- Mobile broadband solutions company Tekelec won the "Best Signaling Solution for Traffic Management" with its market-leading Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) at the Global Broadband Traffic Management Congress 2012. The category recognizes the company that best manages signalling congestion on networks and ensures operators control 'chatty' applications for superior quality of service (QoS) to the end user.

Industry analysts from firms Informa Telecoms & Media, Heavy Reading, Ovum, Yankee Group and Wireless Explorers selected Tekelec as the winner.

Tekelec's DSR was selected as the winner because of the ability to handle rapid and unpredictable Diameter traffic growth and to accommodate protocol mediation and interworking functions that help mobile operators effectively manage 2G/3G-to-LTE and LTE-to-LTE roaming demands. The DSR supports hundreds of thousands of messages per minute, tens of millions of concurrent sessions, and hundreds of millions of subscribers and devices -- essential capabilities for both 3G mobile data and LTE networks.

The DSR is a key component of the New Diameter Network, which relies on the Diameter protocol to exchange network, subscriber, policy, and charging information supporting mobile data activity.

Last month's Tekelec LTE Diameter Signaling Index™ forecasted LTE Diameter signaling traffic growth will outpace mobile data traffic growth by a three to one ratio through 2016. Key drivers of Diameter volume are policy and charging messages supporting usage-based service plans, authentication and roaming for LTE subscribers, and increased usage of voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video streaming.

Market intelligence firm Exact Ventures estimates that Tekelec has 75 percent to 85 percent market share. Tekelec has 22 DSR customers.
