VSE Corporation (Nasdaq: VSEC) reported that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its National Chamber Foundation have named VSE as one of five finalists for the Hiring Our Heroes’ Don Weber Wounded Warrior Employment Award. VSE Corporation is one of 25 businesses, nominated among five categories, recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for demonstrating leadership in addressing the challenges faced by veterans, transitioning service members, and military families in their search for meaningful employment.

Since the inception of its Veterans Outreach Program in 2009, VSE has provided volunteer support, funding and leadership across a wide range of veterans support activities. VSE provides hundreds of employment opportunities to veterans and their family members. Within the VSE family, veterans are found in large representation throughout the corporate structure, including key corporate officer positions. VSE’s total work force is approximately 35% veteran and its Federal and International Groups are comprised of over 50% veteran employees. In the past three years, VSE has averaged hiring 1,100 personnel per year. Of these annual new hires, more than 50% are veterans; of those, over 26% are disabled veterans, and 51% are veterans separated from their service one year or less.

The Hiring Our Heroes awards also are given in four other categories recognizing smaller organizations: Veteran and Military Spouse Employment; Post-9/11 Veteran Employment; Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring; and Small Business Veteran and Military Spouse Employment.

The winners in each category will be announced at the 2^nd Annual Lee Anderson Hiring Our Heroes Awards Dinner at the Chamber on November 14, 2012. A peer committee of veterans and military spouses will select the winners.
