I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Comcast Names Rodrigo Lopez as Regional Vice President of the Oregon and SW Washington region

BEAVERTON, Ore., Nov. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications services, has named Rodrigo Lopez as Regional Vice President for Oregon and SW Washington.  Lopez will report to Steve White, President of Comcast's West Division, and will oversee Comcast's video, high-speed Internet and telephone operations throughout Oregon and SW Washington, serving more than 600,000 customers and managing more than 2,000 employees.

Based in the company's Beaverton office, Lopez replaces Hank Fore who accepted a new position running Comcast's California operations.  Lopez most recently served as Regional Vice President of Comcast's Mountain (Salt Lake City) Region, where he held management responsibilities for 300,000 customers and 1,500 employees.  Under Lopez's leadership, the region has topped the company's overall rankings for customer care and financial metrics.

"I am so excited to come to Oregon and SW Washington to lead our employees here and help them continue to provide great service to our customers," Lopez said. "I'm looking forward to connecting with the local community and becoming an integral part of the region."

Over his nearly 20 year career at Comcast, Lopez has moved seven times and held 12 different jobs starting as a Customer Account Executive working in the Orange County, California Call Center. He often tells employees the story of how his many promotions and new responsibilities demonstrate that no matter what their current job, it's possible to continue to advance within the company with hard work and dedication.

Before leading the Mountain region, Rodrigo worked as Vice President of Finance in the California region, as well as in finance jobs in Seattle, Delaware and Utah.

"Rodrigo is a great example of a valued Comcast employee who worked hard and consistently delivered results," said White. "I know that his focus on the customer experience, leadership skills and appreciation for our employees will continue to bring success to the region."

Lopez is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton, a graduate of Comcast University's Executive Leadership Forum, CTAM U, and a recipient of the NAMIC Luminary Award. In addition, he served on the board of directors for the United Way of Salt Lake City, Junior Achievement, Juan Diego Catholic High School and the Catholic Business Network of Utah.
