XML News Desk Sun Announces Additional Support and Resources for AJAX Development
New Web Portals, Framework Simplify Development of AJAX Applications on the Java Platform
By: PR Newswire
May. 16, 2006 12:00 PM
SAN FRANCISCO, The AJAX Experience 2006, May 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. , the creator and leading advocate of Java(TM) technology, today furthered its support for the AJAX community by launching two new comprehensive online resources for AJAX application development as well as Project jMaki, an open source JavaScript Wrapper Framework for the Java Platform. As a proud sponsor of The AJAX Experience 2006, an international two-day conference exclusively for the AJAX community, taking place May 10-12 in San Francisco, Sun is reinforcing its commitment to AJAX and the next generation of Web application development on the Java Platform. "AJAX is increasingly becoming a core part of how next generation Web applications are built today, and we at Sun want to do everything we can to help developers learn about, and be productive using, this new pattern for development," said Dan Roberts, Director of Marketing, Developer Tools at Sun Microsystems. "Providing developers with a single source for everything from code samples and blueprints to tools and runtime support will greatly accelerate the learning curve and provide developers access to technology from Sun faster." Today Sun has launched two new developer Web portals: developers.sun.com/ajax and java.sun.com/javascript. The first site (developers.sun.com/ajax) is the most complete resource for AJAX development at Sun. It includes everything developers need to get started with building AJAX applications today, including technical articles, code samples, blueprints, components, development tools, and runtime solutions. The second site (java.sun.com/javascript) provides developers with everything they need to use JavaScript and Java together effectively, including directions on how Sun is working to embed JavaScript directly in the Java Platform. JavaScript can be used for a variety of functions, whether for AJAX-enabled applications, simple scripting on the client, or serverside scripting. In addition, Sun is also rolling out Project jMaki, an open source JavaScript Wrapper Framework for the Java Platform. Today, there are many JavaScript AJAX frameworks available for developers and they are all evolving quickly. Project jMaki is a wrapper framework that allows developers to take JavaScript widgets from many popular AJAX frameworks, and wrap them into a JSP or JSF tag. This provides a Java Language view of JavaScript components. Project jMaki solves several common problems: -- Project jMaki makes it easier to use common AJAX frameworks within the Java EE Platform -- It provides a base set of wrappers around some of the widgets from the more popular frameworks (such as Dojo, Prototype and Yahoo Widgets) -- Project jMaki is easily extensible, allowing developers to use the latest and most useful widgets as they appear Project jMaki can be found on java.net, at http://ajax.dev.java.net/. The AJAX Experience 2006 will feature over 40 technically focused sessions spanning four parallel tracks and covering effective web architecture, enterprise systems, and agile process. Please visit Sun's booth, located in the Exhibit Area, to view demonstrations of Sun's AJAX Blueprints and Java Studio Creator's AJAX development functionality. NetBeans Software Day The third annual NetBeans Software Day is a free event taking place on Monday, May 15, 2006 at the Argent Hotel in San Francisco. James Gosling, the father of Java technology, and other Java technology luminaries will be present to discuss the NetBeans software and the future of Java developer tools. There is no charge to attend this event and attendees do not need to be registered for the JavaOne conference. Space is limited.
