In an interview to the UK-based Financial Times, Ellison confirmed that Oracle has in the past contemplated buying Novell, and that the $350M acquisition of JBoss by Red Hat, which gives Red Hat an open middlware stack, has given him a renewed reason to look at the open source software market.

Hard on the heels of the Red Hat-JBoss acquisition announcement, which overnight transformed Red Hat into a competititor in the middleware space, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison (pictured) has been contemplating an aggressive Oracle counter-move within the Linux market.
