Quest Software and Sybase Team Up Builds IT Solution
New Release Enables Rapid Adoption of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0

Sybase and Quest Software today announced the general availability of the Sybase® Database Expert Option and the Sybase SQL Expert Option for Sybase Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) 15.0, an enterprise-class relational database.  Based on Quest Software technology, Sybase Database Expert and Sybase SQL Expert help deliver optimal database performance and enable rapid migration to version 15.0 of Sybase ASE.  These products are available through Sybase worldwide.

“Our relationship with Quest Software underscores our commitment to providing ASE customers with the best database management and optimization solutions available,” said Kathleen Schaub, vice president, product marketing, Sybase Information Technology Solutions Group. “Sybase Database Expert and Sybase SQL Expert will help speed the migration to ASE 15.0.”

The Sybase Database Expert Option maximizes application performance by focusing on the factors that cause up to 90 percent of performance problems, including SQL statements, indexes and database changes. Sybase Database Expert diagnoses and manages the changes that affect the database environment, greatly increasing administrator productivity. In addition, Sybase Database Expert’s Migration Analyzer allows ASE customers to analyze and predict the outcome of a database migration from one version of ASE to another. This allows users to easily identify any potential SQL-related performance regression during migration.

The Sybase SQL Expert Option is a complete SQL performance tuning and optimization solution that pinpoints and rewrites problematic SQL code for developers and database administrators. With its built-in SQL transformation engine, Sybase SQL Expert reduces the effort required to optimize problematic SQL and makes it easier for junior programmers to maximize performance.

“We are very proud of our relationship with Sybase. Their selection of Quest solutions is a testament to our industry-leading technology,” said Larry Humphries, vice president, application and database management solutions, Quest Software. “We understand the importance of Sybase technology, particularly in the financial sector, and are committed to supporting existing capabilities and developing new technologies for Sybase ASE — adding value for the Sybase customer.”

Quest Software and Sybase have a long-standing relationship that began in 2001 when Quest began reselling Sybase PowerDesigner®, the industry-leading modeling software, under the PowerDesigner™ brand name. Product management, engineering and QA teams from both companies worked closely on product direction, stress-testing and QA of Sybase Database Expert and Sybase SQL Expert, for seamless integration with Sybase ASE.

(They could use it as a forum to announce their new CEO, but I will stay away from that one.) However, if I had to bet on what Sun will announce, I would put my money on them trying copy the work we are doing (again) - this time on Blended.
