Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Manufacturing Information Systems Inc. Releases New Manufacturing Business Management System
Manufacturing Information Systems Inc. Releases New Manufacturing Business Management System

WOODSTOCK, Vt., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Manufacturing Information Systems Inc. (MISys) today announced the release of a new manufacturing business management system called MISys Small Business Manufacturing (MISys SBM).

This new software is being sold directly by MISys and cooperatively with Intuit, Microsoft, Sage, SAP, and Softrak channel partners.

MISys SBM manages raw materials inventory, work in process, multi-level bills of material, and BOM revision control for manufacturing firms with fewer than 75 employees.

The product has been called an "accounting-centric" manufacturing system because one of its primary tasks is to maintain a manufacturing sub-ledger. At fiscal period end, MISys SBM transfers its sub-ledger to the general ledger of compatible small business accounting systems including Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, Sage Accpac Simply Accounting, Sage Peachtree Accounting, SAP Business One, and Softrak Adagio Accounting.

MISys SBM was patterned after the MISys flagship product MISys AAS Manufacturing, now in its 20th year with over 7500 installations worldwide. MISys SBM is a three-tier client server application offering flexible deployment options. It can be deployed on a single Windows-based PC, over a company intranet, or deployed over the Internet as a web application. All client server communication is via Microsoft Web Services using HTTP so MISys SBM is firewall friendly. A live connection to the Internet is required.

Built from the ground up using pure Microsoft .NET technology, MISys SBM has a Microsoft SQL database at its heart. A five-user copy of Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) is included in the package price, but for licensees needing more concurrent users, the software will work with Microsoft SQL Server or other ANSI-compliant SQL database engines.

MISys SBM's core functionality (called Basic Manufacturing) includes comprehensive stock transfer, physical inventory, cost rollup functions, production work orders, a simple-to-use manufacturing planning facility, and user-configurable alerts which mine critical manufacturing data and suggest appropriate responses. Advanced Purchasing and Bin Tracking are available as extra-cost options. Additional modules for master production scheduling (MPS), material requirements planning (MRP), and serial/lot tracking (SLT) are anticipated later this year.

MISys has adopted a two-part pricing model for this software intended to 1) keep the acquisition cost low and 2) help users control future maintenance costs. A basic one-user license starts at US$2,500. Additional user licenses are US$1,000. An annual subscription fee of US$450 insures that all program updates are delivered to the MISys SBM Server via the Internet. The MISys SBM client modules are updated automatically from the SBM Server.

MISys offers a convenient rent-to-buy option, whereby a one-user system can be rented for just $140/month. The owner may buy out the rental agreement at any time with 80 percent of the applicable rental fees applied to the purchase price. An interactive price list is posted at http://www.misyssbm.com/pricelist.

Owners of small manufacturing firms can view a comprehensive video demonstration, or download a trial copy of MISys Small Business Manufacturing, by visiting http://www.misyssbm.com/getsbm, or by visiting the MISys SBM web site at http://www.misyssbm.com/.
