1/05 - iAnywhere, a subsidiary of Sybase, today announced that it has joined the UWB Forum and WiMedia Alliance Ultrawideband standards bodies. Ultrawideband (UWB) is a burgeoning wireless communication technology that enables high-bandwidth, short-range wireless communications. By joining the respective UWB standards bodies, iAnywhere will help to define standards that merge the benefits of the high data rate transfer capabilities of UWB with the maturity of the Bluetooth software protocol and application profiles. In addition, iAnywhere plans support for UWB within its mobile device solutions, which will provide device manufacturers and chip set providers with the building blocks required to bring both Bluetooth and UWB-enabled products to market quickly and easily.

1/05 - Sybase announced that in a recent report, Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2004 Vendor Shares (IDC #34666, December 2005), leading IT market research advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase and its iAnywhere subsidiary as the leader in mobile device management enterprise software with higher revenues and market share in a top 10 list that makes up more than three-fourths of the market and is dominated by large systems-management vendors.

RFID Anywhere 2.0 and SAP AII
1/23 - Sybase announced that with its RFID Anywhere 2.0 solution, Sybase is one of the first middleware providers to achieve certified integration with SAP's AII (Auto-ID Infrastructure), a comprehensive auto-ID middleware solution that connects RFID data and integrates the data directly into enterprise applications. The integration between the two solutions will allow SAP customers to access and manage data collected at the edge of their enterprises, and coordinate and manage the wide variety of RFID readers and printers (including both EPC and ISO standards), barcode scanners, sensors including temperature sensors, and PLCs (programmable logic controllers) supported by Sybase. Leveraging the synergies created through these new interfaces, Sybase will work with SAP to offer customers robust data collection, device management, and enterprise application suite solutions through a joint global customer initiative.

1/24 - Sybase announced that by using Sybase IQ, an analytics server that provides a fast query performance and storage-retrieval functions for reporting on structured or unstructured data, at the core of its new high-speed version of TrueStandings Securities, LoanPerformance, a subsidiary of First American Real Estate Solutions and a leader in residential mortgage data and analytics, can run analyses and reports up to one hundred times faster than previous generations.

Readers' Choice Award
1/25 - Sybase announced that Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, the company's enterprise-class relational database management system, won LinuxWorld Magazine's Readers' Choice Award. Sybase ASE was named "Best Linux Database," triumphing by a wide margin over offerings from MySQL, Oracle, and Ingres/Computer Associates. SYS-CON, the parent publishing company for LinuxWorld Magazine, tallied votes from over 17,000 of its readers and announced the winners on January 17, 2006.
