NordNav Unveils the World's First Embedded Software Receiver That Enables Mobile GPS Positioning, Combining Improved Performance

BARCELONA, Spain and STOCKHOLM, Sweden, February 13 /PRNewswire/ -- NordNav, the seamless location company, today announced the full commercial release of its NordNav E5000 embedded software receivers for Mobile GPS Positioning at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Mattias Åström, CEO of NordNav, commented, "NordNav is the first company in the world to release an innovative software based positioning solution that will enable manufacturers of mobile phones and PDAs to include GPS into any device with a 75% cost reduction compared with conventional hardware solutions. During the past few years, we have seen a rapid integration of color screens and digital cameras into mobile phones and PDAs. Today, we see the dawn of a new era in which location functionality is the next innovation to become included into portable devices. This will improve the lives of millions of users worldwide."

NordNav's E5000 Mobile Solution can be easily embedded into most portable processors and reference design platforms including ARM9, Texas Instruments OMAP and Intel XSCALE. By taking advantage of existing processing power, NordNav's solution saves space and requires substantially smaller footprint in the host device. The highly effective acquisition engine also provides faster time to first fix than the typical hardware GPS receiver, resulting in a greatly enhanced user experience. In addition, Nordnav E5000 is based around a flexible and upgradeable software architecture, which provides shorter time to market for mobile device vendors by separating development cycles for software and hardware.

NordNav E5000 also has a 'Location Aware' mode that significantly reduces battery consumption and provides the user with a position at all times. This is in contrast to conventional hardware receivers that rely either on 'push to fix' location determination, network-dependent assisted GPS, or battery-draining continuous tracking. NordNav E5000 thus ultimately offers a superior customer experience centered around seamless location.

NordNav will be demonstrating the NordNav E5000 solution at the Barcelona 3GSM World Congress on February 13-16, 2006 in stand G81, Hall2. The innovative, next-generation solution will be demonstrated on a variety of platforms including the Nokia 770 and Texas Instruments' OMAP. Nordnav's E5000 Mobile Solution is currently sampling to selected customers and the product is available for immediate shipment in commercial volumes to mobile phone and PDA vendors worldwide.
