Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

iAnywhere Customer Van Delft Wins 2005 Mobile Impact Award
Van Delft Named Best in Sales Force Enablement Category

AwardiAnywhere, a subsidiary of Sybase, is pleased to announce that its customer, A. van Delft International B.V., is the recipient of the 2005 Mobile Impact Award in the Sales Force Enablement category. The Mobile Impact Awards are presented by the Mobile Enterprise Alliance (MEA), a global advocacy group promoting the business benefits of workforce mobility to enterprise end users and decision makers. The prestigious awards honor leading enterprises for successful and innovative deployments of mobile enterprise solutions that successfully balance technology investments with business objectives. The winning case studies can be viewed at: www.mobileenterprise.org/awards.

A. van Delft International B. V., one of the leading suppliers of cut flowers in the Netherlands, focuses primarily on service, automation and modern technology. After a detailed market assessment, system integrator Omnimove decided to use M-Business Anywhere by iAnywhere as the server platform for A. van Delft's mobile system extension. M-Business iAnywhere provides a platform for delivering Web-based content and applications to mobile devices rapidly and cost-effectively - with minimal recoding. A local database on the mobile device contains information on all customers and a list of merchandise with more than 1500 different flowers. All transactions can be performed independently of a network connection, and as a result they are "always available." The results of this new mobile system include faster and almost error-free delivery and order handling for A. van Delft International.

"A. van Delft International exemplifies the mission of this awards program: successful and innovative deployment of a mobile solution that balances technology investments with business objectives," stated Daniel Taylor, managing director, MEA.

"Congratulations to A. van Delft International on this prestigious award. It's innovative companies like A. van Delft who demonstrate the significant real-world benefits of mobilizing business processes," said Brian Vink, vice president of marketing at iAnywhere. "iAnywhere is honored that our M-Business Anywhere platform was selected to be a key component of A. van Delft's award-winning mobile solution."

Mobile Impact Award nominations were submitted from around the world as case studies in seven categories. The entries were evaluated by an independent group of judges including leading editors and analysts Kara Gattine, associate editor of TechTarget's SearchNetworking and SearchMobileComputing, Eugene Signorini of Yankee Group, John Stehman of Robert
Frances Group, and Robert Alcock of InterComms magazine. The seven winners were announced via a podcast on November 15 in conjunction with TechTarget's SearchMobileComputing.com.
