Macromedia and Limelight Networks Deliver Limelight MediaEdge Streaming for Macromedia Flash
To Provide High-Quality Web Video Distribution With Flash Media Server 2

Macromedia FlashMacromedia and Limelight Networks has announced the immediate availability of Limelight MediaEdge Streaming for Macromedia Flash. The service enables scalable Flash media streaming on the advanced Limelight content delivery network and leverages the new Macromedia Flash Media Server 2.

In addition, Limelight Networks is now a Macromedia Flash Video Streaming Service partner. Macromedia and Limelight Networks are working together to provide media and entertainment companies' deployment of advanced Flash video experiences for movies and trailers, TV shows, broadcast media, advertising, and major events with Limelight MediaEdge Streaming for Macromedia Flash.

"Media and entertainment publishers are turning to Flash video because they can integrate video into their websites with complete control over playback, interactivity, and branding," said Chris Hock, director of product management, Macromedia. "By partnering with Limelight Networks for the new Limelight MediaEdge Streaming for Macromedia Flash, we are able to leverage their advanced content delivery network and extend those benefits to an even larger audience."

Limelight Networks is uniquely positioned as a leading provider of content delivery network systems specifically designed for live and on-demand broadband streaming to very large audiences. The Limelight MediaEdge Streaming for Macromedia Flash utilizes the Edge-Origin server capabilities of Flash Media Server 2 to advance Limelight Networks' high-capacity delivery backbone. The resulting service utilizes a high-bandwidth media delivery architecture that scales to support a massive number of viewers and responds to changing storage and delivery demands.

"The amazing capabilities inherent in Flash Media Server 2 are perfect for Limelight Networks, given our focus as a content delivery network for media and entertainment," said Mike Sawyer, vice president of marketing, Limelight Networks. "We look forward to working with Macromedia and expanding the delivery of Flash media experiences to the large and growing audience for broadband content."

Flash Media Server 2 is now available (announced at Streaming Media West 2005; see separate release), and combines traditional streaming media capabilities and a flexible development environment for creating and delivering innovative, interactive media applications. Flash video is delivered via Macromedia Flash Player, allowing content publishers to reach the largest possible audience on the web and to deploy high-quality online video across all major platforms and browsers, while lowering the costs of development, quality assurance, and support. Flash Player is currently installed on over 600 million desktops and mobile devices globally.
