Thirsty Texans Help Saint Arnold Brewing Company Achieve Record Production
Texas brewery continues to carefully grow production in an effort to keep up with strong demand

Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today reported that it continues to carefully grow production in an effort to keep up with strong demand. Despite periodic disruptions in its brewing caused by the transition to its new brewery in downtown Houston, Saint Arnold achieved record production of nearly 14,000 barrels during the first half of 2010.

“The move to our new brewery was a bigger challenge than we anticipated and we spent much of the spring just trying to catch up,” said Brock Wagner, Founder/Brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing. “Now that we have done some recipe adjustments to accommodate our larger tanks and gotten the kinks out of the new brewhouse, we think 30,000 barrels for the year is possible. We thank our community of loyal customers and the supermarkets, bars and restaurants who carry our brands for their understanding about our periodic shortages this spring.”

Even with those frustrations, Saint Arnold Brewing’s production in the first half of 2010 exceeded its annual production in 2006, which was a record at the time. During the first half, Saint Arnold Lawnmower Beer and Saint Arnold Elissa IPA recorded the largest increases.

Year Production % Growth

2010 (1st half) 13,910 barrels 7 percent

2009 25,710 barrels 13 percent

2008 22,749 barrels 28 percent

2007 17,811 barrels 30 percent

2006 13,638 barrels 25 percent

Saint Arnold Brewing also experienced a jump in draft beer sales in the first half of 2010 with sales of Saint Arnold kegs growing twice as fast as cases versus the same period a year ago. It signals a profound change taking place in Texas restaurants and bars: a greatly increased focus on Saint Arnold beers along with other craft beers in the market.

Saint Arnold Brewing’s new facility at 2000 Lyons Avenue in Houston began brewing at the end of February. It has annual capacity of 40,000 barrels expandable up to 120,000 barrels per year. With the move behind them, Saint Arnold’s brewers recently announced the “Movable Yeast” series – special brews that offer a twist on Saint Arnold’s year-round beer recipes. The first quarterly release will be Saint Arnold Weedwacker, a re-yeasted version of Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer, which is scheduled for release on August 16, 2010.

About Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Saint Arnold Brewing's ten brews are made and sold by the company’s staff of 27 dedicated employees. The brewery was listed by USA Today as one of the “10 great places to see what’s brewing in beer.” It is located at 2000 Lyons Avenue and its brewery tour and tasting is offered every weekday at 3:00 P.M. and Saturdays starting at 11 A.M.
