Cloud Computing Journal: A very general question first, about Cloud Computing itself: Surely we've heard all of this before in various forms and guises - grid computing / utility computing, etc.? What is different this time - why is everyone so convinced it will now work?

Tony Bishop: Cloud is an evolution. It coalesces grid, utility, virtualization and web standards into a delivery paradigm. The difference is each of these components are building blocks that solve the specific point problems of abstracted, on-demand, distributed processing.

Cloud Computing Journal: What are the three main factors driving CIOs toward the Cloud?

Tony Bishop: The three main factors are agility, efficiency, and economics.

Cloud Computing Journal: And what are the three main barriers preventing some CIOs from moving some of the on-premise computing to the Cloud?

Bishop: The three main barriers are internal operational controls and discipline, automation, and security

Cloud Computing Journal: How does your own company's offering/s assist CIOs and organizations/companies?

Bishop: We provide the automated design and decision intelligence software platform to help organizations create their own blueprint for the cloud. Our software enables firms to answer what do I change, where do I change and how do I implement.

Cloud Computing Journal: Are there other players in the Cloud ecosystem offering the same - or is your company unique? Why?

Bishop: We are first mover in the space in terms of modeling, analytics, algorithms, design database and blueprinting software. Traditionally, systems integrators and consultancies would provide some of these capabilities as a one-time service. In fact, a number of these firms have or are considering licensing our software to accelerate their ability to deliver solutions to clients.

Cloud Computing Journal: We hear talk of a Cloud Revolution and also of a Cloud "evolution" - either way, what kind of time span are we talking about, do you think. In other words, for how long is Cloud Computing going to exert its pull on the minds, hearts, and budgets of all involved in modern-day Enterprise IT?

Bishop: The evolution has started. We see Cloud "crossing the chasm" over the next 3 to 5 years.
