Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

PowerBuilder News
All things of interest to the PB community

PowerBuilder Third-Party
Coolbar
08/12/2005 - Aart Onkenhout introduced Coolbar, wrappers around the Microsoft rebar and toolbar control to make it possible to have Office XP- and Office 2003-style toolbars in PowerBuilder applications. Although some of the features will be available in the newest PowerBuilder version (10.5), these wrappers make it possible to give an Office look to applications written in PB7 to PB 10.2 (and 10.5 too).

Coolmenu
08/12/2005 - Aart Onkenhout also released a new build of Coolmenu: 2.5 Build 126. Coolmenu now reacts on theme and color changes. There was also a change to the imagelist to show XP-style icons with alpha channel in the correct way.

Real's PowerBuilder How-To
08/05/2005 - Réal Gagnon added two new examples to its site (Get the number of items in a Treeview, Detect network, and/or Internet connectivity state) and modified two previous examples (Use Microsoft Crypto API, Get the IP address).

PBL Peeper
08/24/2005 - Techno-Kitten.com released a new version of PBL Peeper. One significant change is that ORCA (compiling) technology has been deprecated. Until now, PBL Peeper was tied to a specific PowerBuilder build because of a bug in ORCA. Now that option is gone because there's no ORCA functionality to turn on, but few features and options are gone as a result. If it weren't for the incompatibility between ANSI/DBCS PBL functions and Unicode PBL functions (and platform issues), there would only be a single version of PBL Peeper. That's coming in the next release.
