Quest Software Named No. 1 Software Vendor by IDC
Quest Leads the Fastest-Growing Segment of the Data Management Facilities Market

Quest Software, a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, has announced that it has been named by IDC as the No. 1 market share leader in distributed data management facilities (DMF) software, based on the report titled "Worldwide Data Management Facilities Software 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares.

"The IDC report examines the DMF market for the period from 2002 to 2009 and identifies that the distributed DMF market segment, which is comprised of products for databases running on UNIX, Linux and Windows operating environments, is the fastest-growing segment.

"Quest is the leading DMF vendor on the distributed platform. Quest offers a variety of tools to manage, monitor and tune the database," writes Carl W. Olofson, research director, IDC in the September 2005 report. "Quest now offers support for all the leading distributed relational database management systems (RDBMSs) and has experienced four consecutive years of revenue growth."

IDC's market analysis highlights that new opportunities for DMF vendors will continue to grow because the data management scene is complex, and most data management environments are heterogeneous. Based on IDC definitions, DMF products are used to load, reload, reorganize, recover or otherwise manage and optimize databases. The category also ludes database-specific accelerators, SQL optimization tools and other database utilities.
