Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer gave a speech about the cloud Thursday that was webcast. "We are betting our company on" it, he said. Apparently Microsoft has shifted 70% of its work to the cloud. Should hit 90% a year from now. He also observed that Google is better at search than Yahoo, a lot better. The desktop won't disappear soon the way Google claims but it has to be more than just a gateway to the Internet to be valuable, he said. Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, by the way, said Tuesday that it could take years to turn Yahoo around.
