Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

Mezeo Software Launches Cloud Newsletter and New Business Model Toolkit
Newsletter provides insights and information on the fast growing cloud storage market

Cloud Computing on Ulitzer

Mezeo Software launched the Cloud Storage Strategy monthly newsletter. Sponsored by Mezeo, the Cloud Storage Strategy newsletter and blog focus on Cloud Storage insights and observations from industry thought leaders.

The Business Model Toolkit helps Service Providers assess the benefits and costs of entering the Cloud Storage Market. The Model uses inputs to present a sample business model and calculate potential return on investment from offering a Cloud Storage service.

Steve Lesem, CEO of Mezeo Software, explains that his ultimate goal for the newsletter and CloudStorageStrategy.com is to provide thought leadership as Cloud Storage technologies continue to mature.

"An emerging technology, Cloud Storage is growing rapidly, and CloudStorageStrategy.com encourages everyone in the industry to ask questions, discuss alternatives and help shed some light on this fast-paced and exciting market," said Lesem. "The Mezeo team sponsored this forum because we want to interact with others who are interested in generating new capabilities that truly create forward-looking business value."

"Our goal is to bring together industry thought leaders, professionals, and vendors to discuss the business impact of Cloud Storage and define and understand the critical factors that contribute to improving the customer experience," said Gray Hall, Chairman of Mezeo (and CEO of Alert Logic) and co-contributor for CloudStorageStrategy.com. "It's all about giving customers options that make sense, new capabilities that truly create value, and not just creating buzz about the latest market trend," said Hall.

Both Hall and Lesem have an IT service provider background and previously worked at VeriCenter, a leader in managed hosting, co-location, and IT outsourcing services. Lesem explains that they witnessed a shift in the marketplace as Cloud Storage became a key part of the overall Cloud Computing strategy, and major new entrants with cloud-based offerings quickly redefined the hosting and SaaS market.

"We recognized that there was a clear lack of an IT service-provider-ready cloud storage solution at that time, which led to the birth of Mezeo Software and our Cloud Storage Platform for service providers," said Lesem.

The Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform is a software-only, deployable solution with RESTful Web Services APIs for programmatic access to storage. It provides service providers such as Tier 3 with the opportunity to provide their own hosted and branded cloud storage offerings to their customers. Files stored in a Mezeo-based cloud can be securely accessed via pre-built, brandable access clients including the Web, smartphones (BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile) and desktop, using the Mezeo Native client for Windows and WebDAV based connectivity for Linux and Mac. The Mezeo business model includes a Cloud Storage Readiness team to ensure a rapid and successful cloud storage service launch and a revenue model that is driven by shared success.
