As the company transitions to be a multi-platform player, the feeling is to have management who are experts about software, the converged infrastructure market, and familiar with the players in the space. Ergo the new CEO, and ergo the new levels of backing from investors. The company is still hiring in its field and OEM spaces, and in conversations with multiple IHV partners.

Oracle VP Maps Oracle's Cloud Computing During Cloud Expo Keynote
Wang referred to Oracle's relative silence to date vis-a-vis Cloud Computing during his keynote

Cloud Computing Expo on Ulitzer

"We've been fairly quiet," said Rex Wang, VP of Infrastructure and Management at Oracle, this morning as he gave the Morning Keynote at the third and last day of the 4th International Cloud Computing Conference  Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

Wang was referring to Oracle's relative silence to date vis-a-vis Cloud Computing. His intention, he said, was to share with the assembled delegates Oracle's thoughts on the space...

Rex Wang with Jeremy Geelan, Cloud Computing Expo Conference Chair, during his November 4 keynote at the Santa Clara Convention Center

According to IDC, Wang notes, Cloud-related spending constitutes only only 5% of total IT spending in 2009, which in four years will double to 10%...but even so, 90% will still be "traditional" IT spending.

Oracle was a Platinum Sponsor of the 4th International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo

Until now Oracle has been fairly quiet, Wang repeated, but Oracle's position and thinking is clear: Oracle wants to make the Cloud  "fully enterprise grade."

Oracle already delivers Cloud services, Wang said;  But Oracle will always give its customers the choice as to whether to use private or public cloud.
