Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Greg O'Connor to Present AppZero Data Center at Cloud Computing Conference
Cloud Provisioning Case Study

Cloud Computing Expo on Ulitzer

AppZero's CEO Greg O'Connor will be a featured speaker at SYS-CON's 4th annual Cloud Computing Conference, which is co-located at the Santa Clara Convention Center with the 7th International Virtualization Conference & Expo November 2-4. O'Connor's session is entitled, "Case Study: Fortune100 data center provisions to and from * Cloud with Virtual Application Appliances."

In this session, O'Connor will detail the real-world experience of an AppZero Fortune 100 customer using a single gold server-application image for cross-domain provisioning of the data center, to multiple clouds and back. The ability to move server-based applications across VMs -VMware, Xen, and Hyper-V - without any modifications freed this Fortune 100 company from infrastructure lock-in. Greg examines the multiplier effect of that freedom across the data center to *clouds, where * = any combination of Disaster Cloud, Private Cloud, Public Cloud, Hybrid Cloud on any combination of cloud vendors' offerings.

Continuing on the theme of practicality, Greg O'Connor will also participate in a Power Panel titled, "Enterprise-Level Cloud Computing: Far-Off Dream or Present Reality?", moderated by conference chair, Jeremy Gleelan. This panel presentation will be simulcast Web-wide on SYS-CON TV.

Commenting on the impact of these sessions, O'Connor reflected, "The days of hype are over. There is a real hunger out there for practical how-to guidance. The confluence of technological maturity with a dampened economy forms a fertile ground for the cost-slashing innovation that AppZero brings to server-side application provisioning. Yes, that capability is powerful as enterprises look to move across clouds without any modification, but there is a corollary requirement within the data center. Functionally, AppZero blurs the lines between those spheres of operation. We've found that SYS-CON is a solid venue for showcasing our technology to an audience that is knowledgeable and actively engaged in both cloud and earth-based virtualization."

O'Connor is responsible for translating AppZero's vision into strategic business objectives and financial results. He has over 25 years of management and technical experience in the computer industry, having previously been founder and president of Sonic Software, acquired in 2005 by Progress Software (PRGS). There he grew the company from concept to over $40 million in revenue. At Sonic, he evangelized and created the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) product category, which is generally accepted today as the foundation for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
