Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

VirtenSys Announces Strategic Expansion in EMEA
VirtenSys has announced the appointment of Paul Klinkby-Silver as vice president of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)

VirtenSys has announced the appointment of Paul Klinkby-Silver as vice president of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). In this role, he will build on the strong customers’ demand in the region and lead the company’s aggressive sales and marketing expansion strategy. Klinkby-Silver will be part of the VirtenSys team at Storage Expo 2009, Booth 570f, on October 14-15, 2009, at London Olympia to demonstrate the company’s recently announced I/O virtualization switches.

Klinkby-Silver has more than 25 years of sales and management experience in helping high-tech companies expand their business to international markets. Most recently, he was vice president of EMEA for EqualLogic, a storage solution vendor. In this role, he successfully established EqualLogic in Europe, and played a major part in the company’s growth, which ultimately led to its acquisition by Dell. Prior to EqualLogic, he was general manager of EMEA for Intransa, and, before that, he was CEO of Avanti Europe.

“Paul joins VirtenSys with an impressive track record of growing revenues and understanding of customer needs; his drive and experience with customer deployments in our target markets align with our company’s sales objectives,” said Ahmet Houssein, president and CEO at VirtenSys. “Our I/O virtualization switches were very well received by customers in the EMEA region, resulting in early successes and very strong pull from the market. The addition of Paul to our team will cultivate existing partner and customer relationships and accelerate the company’s EMEA revenue growth. ”

“I am pleased to join the VirtenSys team and help to bring its I/O virtualization solutions to the EMEA market,” said Paul Klinkby-Silver. “VirtenSys is well-positioned to grow its customer base in this region. As IT budgets are continuously getting smaller, the VirtenSys solutions help improve data center efficiency, free up critical resources, and reduce cost and power without disrupting current processes. VirtenSys has brought to market a product at the right time to serve as a platform to optimize server networking and storage connectivity, and become a catalyst to the next-generation green IT data centers.”

VirtenSys to exhibit at Storage Expo 2009

As part of its strategy to grow its presence in the EMEA market, Virtensys will showcase its award-winning I/O virtualization switches, the VirtenSys VIO 4000 Series, at the Storage Expo 2009. The VIO 4000 series recently won the Best New Technology award at VMworld 2009 in San Francisco, Calif. Ahmet Houssein will also present a paper on I/O virtualization on Wednesday Oct 14, 2009, at 15:15 GMT, in the Virtualization Theatre.

VirtenSys VIO 4000 switches create virtualized I/O clouds where servers’ I/O resources are pooled, consolidated, and dynamically allocated depending on applications’ needs. The switches are based on the company’s Virtual Connectivity Cloud platform that utilizes the PCI Express® standard. They are the first products on the market to consolidate, virtualize and share the major types of server networking and storage connectivity, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), SAS/SATA and Fibre Channel, without requiring any changes be made to the servers, networks, or I/O adapters.

The VIO 4000 switches reduce rack and blade server management complexity and costs by more than 60 percent, improve I/O utilization to greater than 80 percent, deliver full connectivity bandwidth to servers, halve equipment cost, and reduce I/O power consumption by more than 60 percent. This results in providing servers with the best price/performance and lowest energy consumption for accessing not only the local area networks (LAN), but also the storage infrastructures, including direct- attached storage (DAS) and storage area networks (SAN). The products are available through the VirtenSys worldwide partner network.
