Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Prominent Hedge Fund Adopts Attunity's Change Data Capture (CDC) for SSIS Solution to Enable Trading and Reporting in Real Time
Solution Enabled the Firm's Trade Volumes to Quadruple

BURLINGTON, Massachusetts, October 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Attunity Ltd. (OTC BB: ATTUF.OB), a leading provider of real-time data integration and event capture software, announced today that a prominent, privately-held hedge fund firm based in the US has selected Attunity's Change Data Capture (CDC) for SSIS solution to enable access to the hedge fund's trading and reporting databases in real time, streamline their business and improve operations and business intelligence (BI). According to the hedge fund firm, Attunity's non-intrusive CDC technology enabled it to quadruple their standard trade volume and extended $10 million in additional business opportunity.

Having access to the most current data possible in real-time is a business imperative for hedge funds and others in the financial services industry. Change Data Capture (CDC) technology monitors and transfers only those data items that have been changed on the source systems, removing the need for large bulk-data transfers from one system to another while enabling efficiencies in time, resources and cost.

According to the hedge fund firm, to remain competitive as the firm grew and activities increased, it had to lessen the burden and overhead on their server operations by moving their transactional data sources away from business users (brokers, analysts, accountants) using it for reporting and analysis. The Attunity model has increased the company's up-time and improved the ability of users to do their jobs without facing consequences such as server down-ages, contentions and deadlocks, which could cause losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars at peak times, and could ultimately shut down their firm. This possible disastrous scenario created the imminent and crucial need for the firm to seek and implement the Attunity solution after consideration of many others available.

"Attunity's log-based CDC technology is unique. This solution has been imperative to keeping our business up and running-it's the only real-time CDC solution of its kind which fit our budget," stated the Vice President of Information Technology at the Hedge Fund. "We appreciated that we could ensure our transactional and reporting databases were in sync without experiencing overhead on the box and disruption to the core server."

"As the leading independent provider of real-time data integration software with CDC technology, we believe that CDC is fast becoming the only viable solution for handling vast volumes of data in real-time to handle initiatives such as data warehousing, MDM and operational data replication," stated Mel Passarelli, Attunity' s VP of North American Operations. "We are pleased that we were able to help this hedge fund customer solve their data integration challenges, improve their business intelligence and reporting needs, and ultimately grow their business-all within their budget."

In the end, Attunity won this customer's business because the solution proved itself in tests of throughput and measurements of real time. The firm further stated that by leveraging existing investments and skills in SQL Server, the solution offered a dramatically lower cost of ownership.

Vice President of Information Technology at the Hedge Fund continued, "Our trade volume quadrupled after implementation of the Attunity CDC solution. Our business has sustained in volatile markets where others have not, and we're profitable; continuing to grow. We attribute much of this success to the Attunity solution, which has enabled us access to our data in real-time, helped to increase our volumes, improve reporting and help stabilize our information infrastructure."
