Moving up the stack to PaaS and SaaS the use of virtualisation may, as you say, be less required if you put lots of smarts into your software. A lot of software does not have those smarts and by utalising virtualisation of the layers below can manipulate existing software architectures to have more cloudy attributes through automation (eg run load balancers and deploy more servers automagically). Over time, as new investment in software at...

Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform at Tier 1 Hosting Transformation Summit
Significant enhancement that will offer users geographic options, broad array of compatibility and access capabilities.

Cloud Hosting Journal on Ulitzer

LAS VEGAS, September 15, 2009 - Mezeo Software, the leading provider of deployable cloud storage solutions, today announced the upcoming release of the Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform 3.0.  The upgrade represents a significant enhancement that will offer users geographic options, and the industry's broadest array of compatibility and access capabilities.

Mezeo is a Gold Sponsor at the Hosting Transformation Summit North America, which runs September 14 to 16 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Mezeo will be exhibiting at the event in booth #4.

The Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform v3.0 will provide the following enhancements:

  • Policy-driven geo-location and geo-replication - organizations can define where objects are stored and distribute objects across geographically distributed data networks in support of business continuity initiatives.  Users will be able to view and access their information through a single namespace.
  • Additional compatibility with Amazon's S3 APIs - organizations that developed applications for Amazon can easily migrate to the Mezeo-based cloud storage.
  • Additional support for legacy access and migration to the cloud - users will have additional access options for CIFS/ NFS, in addition to the existing high performance access via RESTful Web Services APIs, Mezeo Windows Native client and WebDAV.
  • Sync capability via a new white label Windows sync client - this allows users to keep their desktops synchronized with their cloud storage. Changes made to user selectable objects, whether on the cloud or on the local machines, are perpetuated across the network to update the older version.  Users can access their files via multiple access clients; including Web, desktop and smartphones.

"We have gained significant traction in the IT service provider space and we expect the industry will be excited about these significant, new capabilities," said Mezeo President and CEO Steve Lesem. "The cloud storage market space continues to mature, and this new release is a reflection of what our service provider customers need to be successful.  It is about helping service providers solve their unique business challenges.  The Mezeo solution provides options, complete security in a global business environment, and a true Web-scale cloud environment - not just a clustered file system."

Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform v3.0 will be backwardly compatible, meaning all current customers can seamlessly upgrade in place. It will be released in December 2009.

Organized by Tier1 Research, the Hosting Transformation Summit is the premier forum for executives in the hosting, data center and internet infrastructure sectors. The summit provides a complete overview of the opportunities and challenges facing the hosting industry - ranging from power, cooling and partnering to M&A strategies and meeting the ever-increasing expectations of the customer.

Also at the Hosting Transformation Summit, Mezeo President and CEO Steve Lesem will participate in the panel, "Storage Opportunities: Cloud vs. Conventional." The discussion will explore the advantages of modern cloud storage over traditional SAN- and NAS-based storage.
