Sybase to Enable Deployment on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud
Cloud computing enables users to select just the right amount of power, performance, and capability to fit their needs

PowerBuilder Developer's Journal

Sybase. announced the availability of its leading data management and analytics servers including Sybase SQL Anywhere, Sybase IQ, and Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise for the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) environment. With these products, customers will have the ability to quickly develop and deploy on-demand data systems for mobile, analytics and transactional applications.

Sybase data management and analytics products provide the robust security and high performance required by demanding, remotely deployed enterprise applications. Sybase is enabling an additional flexible deployment of its industry-leading technology by allowing developers to quickly set up and allocate data and analytic servers in the dynamic Amazon EC2 environment. These products will be delivered as production-ready Amazon machine images and available on demand at conveniently priced hourly system usage rates.

"Cloud Computing is an important opportunity for Sybase, since purchasing decisions are made on price and service provider brand," said Carl Olofson, IDC Research Vice-president of Application Development and Deployment. "Cloud computing enables users to select just the right amount of power, performance, and capability to fit their needs while eliminating the cost of maintaining their own infrastructure. Sybase is offering its customers the ability to leverage Sybase's well established data management capabilities into the Cloud."

“HealthWyse provides our Home Care, Hospice and Private Duty customers with an efficient, easy-to-use, fully integrated clinical and financial point of care management system by working closely with innovative companies,” said Andrew Braunstein, CTO for HealthWyse. “As we look for new ways to expand and scale our business, Sybase’s relationship in leveraging Amazon’s Cloud Computing infrastructure provides another example of how our partnership with Sybase enables us to stay on the cutting edge while evaluating alternative approaches to delivering our services in a potentially more scalable and cost effective manner.”

“Sybase continues to offer its partners and customers innovative and open data management and analytics solutions that address their enterprise deployment requirements and service level agreements,” said Brian Vink, vice-president, data management products, Sybase. “Sybase Technology works with Amazon Web Services to provide our customers a new way to enable the security, reliability and power of proven Sybase database and analytics products in a way that meets our customer's business goals.”

To provide for a full range of business applications, Sybase is offering three powerful data management servers for the EC2 environment.

  • Sybase SQL Anywhere for customers seeking low administrative requirements for their workgroup, mobile, and Web applications
  • Sybase IQ for high-performance analytics, data warehousing and other Business Intelligence applications
  • Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise for powerful transaction management systems
