Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

ADAC Verkehrsinformation Mobil, a Mobile Traffic Information Service
Netbiscuits provides a mobile portal with ADAC data, marketed by InteractiveMedia

The summer holiday period means that long traffic jams build up throughout Germany. It is now possible to ascertain the current traffic situation whilst on the move by accessing all traffic and traffic jam reports across the Federal Republic via mobile phone under wap.adac.de. Netbiscuits, the leading software platform for mobile web sites has licensed the data from the ADAC and now both provides and operates this concise, new mobile web portal. The T-Online subsidiary InteractiveMedia is responsible for marketing.

Mobile phone users can now plan their travel itinerary to perfection and adapt it according to the volume of traffic. The mobile portal constantly displays the most recent traffic jams, providing a comfortable search function and an overview of traffic jams, structured according to motorways, Bundesstrassen (A-roads) and Federal states. There is also a Top 5 list of roads with the most traffic jams and the current ADAC weekend traffic prediction. Holiday dates with the most common holiday routes, much used border crossing points, long-term roadworks and events such as “Kieler Woche”, the sailing event in Northern Germany, or the Hamburg Harley Days are also incorporated into the predictions. Intuitive and easy to use: wap.adac.de is thus the perfect companion for every car journey.

The mobile traffic information service, ADAC Verkehrsinformation Mobil, has not only been developed by Netbiscuits, it is also operated by Netbiscuits under license. The world leading web based software platform for mobile internet sites, Netbiscuits is already planning to further expand such offerings. Michael Neidhoefer, Managing Director at Netbiscuits states that, “An iPhone version will soon follow. Furthermore localisation functions will be integrated which automatically inform the user about road hazards in the immediate vicinity”.

Providing traffic information is one of ADAC’s core competences. The editorial office processes up-to-date information from the police, emergency services, road maintenance authorities, Floating Car Data and from about 120,000 volunteer traffic jam reporters. The concise structure of the mobile portal enables users to quickly access the desired information. Frank Bachér, Managing Director Marketing & Sales at InteractiveMedia explains, “The mobile portal ADAC Verkehrsinformation Mobil is highly beneficial for users. Traffic information is crucial information for a huge target group – for example for commuters and for all those who travel by car. Thus the service is a highly attractive environment for advertising.”

InteractiveMedia was authorized by Netbiscuits to market the new mobile traffic information service portal, ADAC Verkehrsinformation Mobil. Advertising customers can book the following formats at wap.adac.de: MobileAd 1:6, MobileAd 1:4 and Big Box (1:2).
