SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/29/09 -- Collecta, the "real" real-time search company, has released a new set of feature enhancements -- strengthening the way it handles pictures and video uploads in its real-time search stream. First launched in June, Collecta has dramatically accelerated the pace of Internet searches, enabling people to track key information on blog posts, news stories, Tweets, and comments in real time. With the new release, Collecta's real-time searches now include video feeds from 12seconds, uStream and Qik -- tapping into the rising number of video clips uploaded from mobile phones, webcams, and digital cameras. In addition, the company enhanced the way it handles images posted on TwitPic and yfrog, two photo and media sharing services for Twitter. Since its launch, Collecta has been helping people stay on top of the latest news, events and trends -- anything from the AlwaysOn and Twiistup live events taking place this week, to the Tour de France which just finished up. In addition, brand managers, marketing and customer service professionals have flocked to the site to supercharge their brand tracking and listening strategies. By running a continuous search on the Tour de France on Collecta, bike fans were treated to an intimate look at the event, with a combination of Tweets, Flickr and TwitPic images from spectators -- including an inside look at photos of team meetings as they happened. Political junkies watching the Sotomayor hearings on C-SPAN could check out reactions to each question and response by following Collecta's real-time trail of blog posts and comments found on CNN, Fox News and across the Web. "Analyzing traffic patterns since the launch has offered some interesting insights -- we're finding that a large number of users are keeping Collecta open between 30-60 minutes and often even more," said Gerry Campbell, CEO of Collecta. "This underscores the real power of Collecta and its endless stream of live updates and information. By letting a search run for an extended period, people can literally watch stories unfold right before their eyes." He continued, "For example, it was fascinating to follow the shuttle launch on Collecta. At launch, posts spiked in Florida -- with people posting pictures from their phones. Then just as updates started tapering down in Florida, we instantly started seeing posts pop up in Ireland, as the shuttle flew overhead with the bright orange fuel tank distinctly visible. Where else can people watch a global event evolve across the ocean, at the same time it's happening?" Based on the open messaging standard XMPP, Collecta offers a substantially more timely alternative to the traditional search approach of indexing, storing, crawling, and retrieving. The real-time search engine aims for second and sub-second latencies in order to present information the instant it has been published. About Collecta Collecta represents a new way to experience search, in real time. Collecta is the Web's most powerful real-time search engine, posting matching stories, blogs, photos, and comments from sites such as Twitter, WordPress, Flickr and more -- as they happen. By aggregating content in real time, Collecta offers a new and more comprehensive view of what's going on in the world right now. For more information, visit www.collecta.com.
