Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

2nd Annual St Maarten Charter Yacht Exhibition
2nd Annual St Maarten Charter Yacht Exhibition

The build-up to the second annual St. Maarten Charter Yacht Exhibition (SCYE) is underway and indications are that there will be significantly more yachts and yacht brokers taking part this year.

The 2004 exhibition set the standard, attracting the world’s most prestigious charter yachts to the island. Over the summer months the St. Maarten marine industry is working to consolidate the island’s position as the leading destination for Megayachts, their owners, guests and crew.

Yachts coming to the island at the start of the new season will find a new deep-water channel leading from the bridge into the lagoon. The new channel will be permanently marked and will make maneuvering and entry into the marinas even easier.

Show Registration

Registration for the 2005 Charter Yacht Exhibition has begun. The registration rates remain the same as 2004 and include free dockage for the show dates.  As an added incentive, yachts registering before July 31st 2005 will receive a 10% discount. Agent registration remains at $75.00.

Registration forms are available on www.charteryachtexhibition.com

SCYE 2005 Centralized

To make the show more ‘user friendly’, the organizers have named Yacht Club Port de Plaisance the focal point of SCYE 2005. This means that all services and exhibitors stands will be located in this one marina. By centralizing, visitors to the show will be exposed ‘full on’ to the numerous high quality services available to them. This also ensures that the smaller stands receive equal amounts of attention amongst their larger competitors.

Marina slips at Yacht Club Port de Plaisance will be the first to be assigned (draft permitting). As the marina fills up, yachts will be allocated berths at the Yacht Club Isle de Sol and Palapa Marina. Simpson Bay Marina will be held for non-participating yachts.

Hospitality Area

The registration-hospitality tent for SCYE 2005 will again include WiFi, an internet café, large screen TV, and bar and social area.

SCYE Gala and Social Events.

The social star of the 2004 show, the Taste of St. Maarten Gala, is scheduled for Monday, December 5th.  This event showcases a number of local restaurants, whose chefs create and serve their specialties to the invited guests. St. Maarten’s culinary reputation is second to none. Along with the quality of marine services, this is another reason why the island is a premier destination for yachts. The exhibition expects in excess of ten restaurants to participate this year.

Tuesday December 6th is the IYC yacht hop. Other management companies who wish to book a social event should contact show administration to ensure an early place on our calendar.

Water Taxis

For the 2005 show, SCYE will be providing complimentary water taxi service to and from the landing across from the airport to facilitate movement between the airport, hotels and the show.  Water Taxis service will continue throughout the show from this location and the show venue to alleviate traffic delays.

Hotels

The list of hotels offering discounts for SCYE 2005 is currently available on our website, www.charteryachtexhibition.com Please book early to ensure you receive a room with a discounted rate.

Exhibitors

This year’s exhibitor area will include a Caribbean Village.  This will be a large tent at the north end of the Port de Plaisance quay wall and will provide a place for other Caribbean Island Marine Trade Associations and Yacht Services companies to have a space at a reduced rate from the standard 10’x10’ booths.  Representatives of other Caribbean Islands should contact show administration for details.

International interest in exhibitor stands is extremely high this year. Registration for stands will be available on our website on July 1, 2005. Exhibitor stand rates will be based on location.  Non-SMMTA member rates are $2,500 - Silver Location and $5,000 - Gold location. Booths include 4 badges but additional badges are available for purchase. Both 110v and 220v power will be provided and a variety of equipment is available for rent.
